Session

Enabling Developers, the art of keeping it simple

Platform teams in the cloud native space struggle to create platforms that are easy to use and enable development teams to go faster. In this session, we will explore two projects that tackle separate but related challenges that platform engineers face while building their platforms. We will start by looking at Backstage and, specifically their plugin ecosystem. Then, we will look into the Dapr project, which aims to enable development teams with APIs to consume multi-cloud infrastructure.

Francisco, a Red Hat engineer and multiple Backstage plugins maintainer, joins Mauricio, a Dapr & Knative maintainer and author of “Platform Engineering on Kubernetes” book.

In this session, attendees will learn about:

- What is Backstage and the anatomy of a backstage plugin
- What is Dapr and how can platform teams leverage this CNCF graduated project
- What it takes to create a Dapr Backstage plugin and why this matters for platform engineers
