Many software engineering teams of all sizes and shapes are facing trouble migrating to Kubernetes. Depending on their existing pattern of infrastructure and operations, they have to face different problems.
Introducing a PaaS tool helps mitigate a lot of these problems. They simplify a lot of the processes by abstracting Kubernetes internals. PaaS tools provide a convenient means for developers to interact with Kubernetes clusters because they obfuscate Kube-primitives and instead provide an alternative.
This talk will explore the general difficulties software engineering teams have when migrating to Kubernetes by characterizing them along the spectrum of existing infrastructure options. (eg. using VMs, using Docker, using mainframes :( , etc ). Then the presentation will move to a brief discussion on strategies and best practices for migration to Kubernetes. Finally a taxonomy of various tools available to apply PaaS substrates over the Kubernetes cluster will be presented.
