Uncluttering Communication and Inviting Collaboration : Reduce the Noise, and Work Better Together
In the tech industry (and beyond) most of us have become accustomed to our inboxes being flooded with notifications regularly from a broad array of different systems and services, as well as colleagues and external communications. Many organizations have attempted to alleviate some of the overwhelming notification noise by directing them to Teams, Slack, and the like. This unfortunately just creates more clutter in our collaboration space. Despite our best efforts to quell the onslaught of unnecessary communications with mailbox rules, Do-Not-Disturb mode, etc… for many of us we're left with hundreds of unread e-mails and notifications. The dozens of hours it would require to sort through and act on all of this is enough to make anyone shudder. Let's explore how we can make this experience better.
In this talk we'll look at:
• How most organizations handle notifications and alerts today
• Why the current strategies are failing
• Why we need to make things better
• Ways we could make things better
• What you can do NOW to improve communications
• Why good collaborative strategy helps to reduce the noise
