Silent Infrastructure: What Shipping SDKs to 3 Billion Devices Taught Me About Privacy & Performance
★ 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍
--------------------------
Every Android app ships with 20-50 SDKs. Most developers never think about them—until they break something. A bloated SDK tanks your build time. A privacy violation tanks your Play Store listing. A poorly documented API tanks your weekend.
I've spent 12+ years on both sides of this problem—building SDKs at Google Firebase (serving 3M+ developers), Snap Kit (300M+ daily users), and LinkedIn (1B+ members), and watching developers struggle to integrate them. This talk distills those years into actionable engineering principles for building SDKs that are private by design, performant by default, and invisible by intention.

𝟏. 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞
How to embed privacy into your SDK's DNA—not bolt it on as an afterthought.
𝟐. 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞
Why monolithic SDKs fail, and how API/Implementation separation, feature modules, and tree-shaking let developers take only what they need. Code examples from production SDKs.
𝟑. 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭
The subtle design decisions that make developers choose your SDK over alternatives—from error messages that actually help, to migration paths that don't require a rewrite.

I'm an IEEE Senior Member and serve on the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society's Technical Committee for Mobile AI. My Firebase build optimization work was published on the official Firebase Blog and the Crashlytics deep-linking feature I prototyped shipped as a core component of Android Studio's App Quality Insights (covered by TechCrunch).
