Modern platform engineering is often described in terms of development, automation, and infrastructure - ultimately creating a golden path. What then about the people paving and walking that golden path? This talk explores what it truly means to “play support” for a platform team: enabling others to build, ship, and innovate faster without becoming a bottleneck. Playing support involves having the meetings no one else wants, creating the solutions no one can be asked to create. Drawing on lessons from large-scale platform initiatives at Bane NOR, we’ll discuss how internal platforms evolve from service providers to trusted partners by utilising their support. Attendees will gain practical insights on fostering alignment across platform teams, balancing autonomy with governance, and how this is achieved on a daily basis.
