AVD in different flavours as successor for on-premises VDIs

This presentation provides an overview of the evolution of virtual workplaces at die Mobiliar, a Swiss insurance company – from traditional on-premises VDI to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
Key topics include the introduction of the developer workstation (“VDI4Dev”) based on single-session AVD, its integration into the existing self-service portal, and the approach to migrating workloads between Azure regions. It also explains the strategic decision not to adopt Windows 365 and the reasoning behind it.

Additional focus areas are image management, monitoring, and the upcoming rollout of Windows 11 multi-session AVD. The session concludes with a retrospective and an outlook on future developments.

While primarily a customer success story, the presentation also includes a few targeted technical deep dives.
