Session
Write AI Agents and MCP Tools in Swift (Not Just Python)
Python isn't the only way to build AI agents. In this session, you'll learn how to use Swift to define and implement tools and agents that speak the Model Context Protocol (MCP) — the open protocol powering AI-native developer workflows.
We’ll walk through building a complete MCP-compatible tool in Swift, show how to integrate it with existing MCP clients like Kiro, and even demonstrate how to write your own Swift-based agent. You’ll see how to define tool schemas, handle invocations, and interact with foundation models — all using the Swift MCP SDK and modern async patterns you already know.
Whether you're an iOS developer curious about AI, a backend engineer looking to expand your stack, or just tired of feeling boxed into Python, this session shows that Swift is a first-class language for building intelligent agents and tools.
Based on my AWS re:Invent Session DEV416, with an increased focus on the MCP part.
