Session
Database DevOps at Scale: A GitOps Approach to Schema Versioning and Rollbacks
Platform engineering has streamlined application delivery, but database changes remain fragmented, manual, and error-prone. This session explores how Database DevOps enables teams to extend their internal developer platforms beyond applications to include automated, secure, and observable database delivery.
We'll dive into the changelog file becomes the single source of truth for schema changes. This file becomes the self-service abstraction that developers commit alongside application code. We'll demonstrate how a Kubernetes Operator or GitOps watches for changes in this file and orchestrates the deployment via pipeline, ensuring automatic validation, schema drift detection, and robust transactional rollbacks.
What You Will Learn:
1. Techniques for enforcing governance (compliance gating) by integrating Git branch policies with the changelog file.
2. How to design the platform so developers achieve database self-service simply by submitting a PR with a new changelog file.
