Leadership as a team
Wherever we look, “teams” are at work. Hardly any other term is used as inflationary as the word “team”. So it's no wonder that it can mean everything and nothing. In software development, there is actually real teamwork from time to time. People work together towards a common goal and contribute different skills.
You work for years to turn a group of people into a team and then, interestingly, for some of us, the teamwork ends when we are promoted. Team leader, engineering manager, department manager... The terms are varied. What they all have in common is that they all involve a lone wolf.
What if we understood leadership as teamwork? What if we didn't have a superior, but a team as a superior? And what would that mean for people in managerial positions?
