Stay Hydrated: GitOps with no more guesswork and cognitive overload

What will this values change actually deploy? Answering that question can mean tracing Helm / Kustomize / YAML templates, defaults, and environment overrides before approving a pull request. Reusable configuration helps authors, but it can leave reviewers reconstructing the resulting Kubernetes manifests.

This talk shows how GitOps hydration moves rendering into CI, commits the resulting WET manifests to Git, and makes concrete resource changes available for review before deployment. We follow a change from template to rendered YAML, then let Flux reconcile the approved output. The focus is reducing the mental work of understanding a deployment while keeping reusable templates.

We also examine the costs: generated-file ownership, larger diffs, and a pipeline that needs maintenance. Attendees leave with a practical adoption workflow and a clear distinction between rendering configuration, validating it, and proving it works in a cluster.
