Repatriating Workloads: Choosing Between Bare Metal and Cloud Infrastructure
As organizations continue to adopt cloud infrastructure for their workloads, they may find themselves needing to repatriate some of their workloads back to on-premises infrastructure for various reasons. One option that organizations may consider is using bare metal infrastructure instead of cloud infrastructure.
Bare metal infrastructure provides direct access to the physical server hardware without the virtualization layer that is present in cloud infrastructure. This can lead to benefits such as improved performance, greater customization options, and stronger security. However, bare metal infrastructure also requires more management and maintenance compared to cloud infrastructure.
In this talk, we will explore the factors that organizations consider when deciding whether to use bare metal or cloud infrastructure. We will examine customer use cases where organizations have repatriated their workloads to bare metal infrastructure and the benefits they have seen. We will also discuss the challenges and trade-offs involved in using bare metal infrastructure, such as the need for specialized skills and the potential for higher costs.
Topics that will be covered include cost, performance, security, compliance, management, and maintenance. By the end of this talk, attendees will have a better understanding of the factors to consider when choosing between bare metal and cloud infrastructure and the benefits and challenges of each approach.
