Columnstore indexes can provide a significant improvement in query performance over several use cases. In fact, when properly applied and maintained, they can provide up to 100x improvement in workload performance along with up to 10x better compression than rowstore indexes.

This session will give a brief review of the architecture of columnstore, along with ideal use cases. We'll then cover requirements to get the optimal performance from them, common issues to watch for, and how to prevent or resolve those issues.

Beyond SQL Server, we'll talk about how some of these principles can extend to Synapse, Power BI, and even SSAS!
