Ethics, AI, and Journalism: Protecting Women's Rights in the Digital Age
This talk explores the ethical challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism, with a special focus on safeguarding women's rights in an increasingly digital world. High-profile incidents, such as deepfake pornography targeting public figures like Giorgia Meloni and Taylor Swift, along with alarming cases involving AI-generated content in schools, illustrate the urgent need to address the misuse of AI technologies.
With the recent publication of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act in 2024, this session examines the critical role of journalism in shaping the public narrative around AI ethics. We will delve into issues such as privacy violations, harmful gender stereotypes, and the lack of consent, all of which disproportionately affect women and girls.
Using relevant case studies and scholarly research, this talk will highlight best practices for ethical AI implementation, emphasizing the need for transparency, accountability, and gender-sensitive approaches to technology. Participants will leave with practical strategies for championing responsible AI practices and advocating for an inclusive digital landscape that upholds human dignity and rights.
