SmartContract is a contract redlining tool developed in-house at UTHealth Houston, trained using internal agreements and incorporating UT System-specific contracting terminology and institutional risk criteria. The tool currently consists of separate modules for agreements processed by research administration, legal affairs, and procurement teams. The objective of developing the tool is to automate first-pass redlines to reduce turnaround time and the effort required for repetitive tasks for the contract negotiator. The tool can also generate draft agreements using UTHealth Houston templates for a specific agreement type. UTHealth contract negotiators review every flag and retain the final decision.
