Housing is Medicine: Research to Understand Systems of Housing for Fathers Experiencing Homelessness
During this session, we will share the results of our study that assesses the feasibility of a multi-sector approach to reducing homelessness among Black fathers in Atlanta. The study is based on the work of an existing multi-sector coalition of leaders, Fathers Matter ATL, which aims to address the unmet health and social needs of fathers, including forms of structural racism that limit housing options for men with dependent children. We will present findings from qualitative interviews with service providers and fathers to identify barriers and opportunities to achieve “Functional Zero” in the incidence of homelessness among fathers. Additionally, we will discuss our system alignment approach among medical, social service, and public health partners and share data from a service referral tracking database.
