Kill the Cold Start: High-Performance Wasm at the Edge
The "Cloud-Native" era taught us how to scale, but the "Edge-Native" era is teaching us how to perform. For modern developers, the bottleneck is no longer CPU—it’s distance. Shipping code to a central region is no longer enough when users expect millisecond responsiveness for everything from dynamic content to real-time AI interactions.
In this hands-on workshop, we break free from the origin. We will leverage Spin—a CNCF project—to build ultra-lightweight, polyglot serverless applications with WebAssembly (Wasm) that defy the laws of latency. You’ll learn how to deploy these components to Akamai Functions, a globally distributed, NoOps platform that treats the world as a single data center.
We will move beyond "Hello World" to architect a production-grade Edge-Native application, featuring:
- Polyglot Development: Building high-speed logic using Rust, Go, or TypeScript within a unified Wasm runtime.
- The NoOps Experience: Deploying globally in seconds without a single line of YAML or infrastructure management.
- Edge-Intelligence: Implementing Edge-resident AI Agents to handle intelligence at the user’s doorstep, minimizing the round-trip to centralized LLMs.
Join this session to eliminate cold starts forever and master the stack that makes global distribution a seamless part of your development workflow.
