RTFM (Rewrite The Fragmented Manual): Organizing Chaos with Diátaxis
"Read the Manual" is usually the standard advice given to confused users, but what happens when the documentation is a disorganized wall of text? When tutorials are buried inside reference guides and explanations are hidden within installation scripts, users go looking for another tool.
Lack of structure is usually the root cause of bad documentation. In this session we will explore Diátaxis, a systematic framework that reorganizes technical documentation into four distinct needs: Tutorials (learning-oriented), How-To Guides (problem-oriented), Reference (information-oriented), and Explanation (understanding-oriented).
We will move beyond vague writing advice and focus on architecture.
You will learn how to identify which quadrant your content belongs in, why mixing them causes friction, and how to restructure your existing docs to be efficient and user-friendly. Whether you are a solo developer maintaining a README or a lead engineer managing a wiki, you will leave with a blueprint to turn your documentation from a burden into a feature.
