T-SQL versus AI - the challenge of "BattleShips" (AI part)
A year ago Torsten Ahlemeyer created a networkable"BattleShips" game with pure T-SQL for training purposes. In the meantime, this project has been greatly expanded and has, among other things, got an opponent in the form of an AI instance implemented in Azure. We let T-SQL algorithms of different strengths play against each other and thus generate mass data that is used as learning material for artificial intelligence. Based on millions of games, the AI learns the rules and improves its own game so well that in the meantime we had to invent and incorporate additional rules such as islands, new types of ships, attack and defense weapons and tactical options. Using visualizations with Power BI, we "look" at the AI while it is learning and we are always amazed at the tactical finesse the mathematics behind it leads to and how quickly people no longer have a chance to win ...
This is only the AI part of the session. It assumes the T-SQL part is given. The structure of the Azure environment, the selection of the "right" algorithm, the training of the AI and the adjusting screws that later lead to a perfect gaming experience are considered. Of course, a live demo is part of the session.
