Since ChatGPT's launch in 2022, GenAI has surged—but with great power comes great responsibility and environmental costs. AI could contribute 14% of global emissions by 2040, with water usage reaching 6.6 billion cubic meters by 2027. Meanwhile, only 28% of U.S. adults feel highly confident in digital literacy, a concern reflected in EU regulations like Article 4 of the AI Act. Sustainability and GenAI may seem at odds, but in this talk, we’ll explore strategies to evaluate and minimize their impact, ensuring (hopefully) a future where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.
