Every engineering organization has to grapple with the Build versus Buy decision for tools. In past lives as a DevEx lead at Walmart and then at Bill, the journey has never ended at that decision—it only begins there. Irrespective of the decision - Build OR Buy - there is work that a Dev Enablement (or DevEx) team does to integrate tools into the existing toolchain/workflow, maintain/update versions, creating abstractions as needed
It's in the artful integration of these tools and the dedicated investment in empowering teams where true innovation is born.

Thoughtful enablement always focuses on driving business success which is only possible when dev teams are able to use it within workflows that they are already familiar with OR are able to use with minimal friction. This session will discuss 2 case studies from my past experience and will offer the audience a deeper look at how targeted training, sensible integrations, and a relentless focus on aligning tooling usability with business goals helped teams move faster and allowed them to unlock their full potential of our teams.
