Manage your Processes like a Product
Whether you are trying to make a couple tweaks, or orchestrate an organization-wide transformation, changing process is hard. We read the books, listen to the podcasts, attend training, hire coaches, and evangelize, but then get frustrated when change doesn't progress fast enough and outcomes don't improve (sometimes they get worse!).
What if we treated our operational framework and the processes within like a product? What if we ask "why" more often, interview the people working within the process, and do discovery before designing changes? What if we broke down the larger transformation into bite-size changes to test before rolling that change out to the larger org? What if we measured the outcome of each change, and then adapting regularly? And how about actively eliminating process debt? Why am I filling out five different status report templates?!
I'll share my stories, ask for yours, and then we can discuss how to go back to our orgs to drive positive outcomes.
