This workshop provides a focused, hands-on exploration of how Microsoft Fabric, in combination with Microsoft Purview, empowers organizations to tackle these governance demands.
Designed for data leaders, governance professionals, and architects, this pre-conference workshop is structured to guide participants through the essential principles, tools, and practices needed to establish a strong governance foundation within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem.

Workshop Agenda
1. Foundations of Data Governance (in Microsoft Fabric)
Kick off the session with an introduction to data governance, the roles involved and how to start your data governance initiative. Learn how to map roles to Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Purview personas.
2. Mange and Secure your Fabric data estate
Dive into the governance concepts in Microsoft Fabric. Understand key concepts such as data domains, workspaces within the Fabric framework.
In a Hands-On lab, you will have the chance to work with the admin portal, and create the initial governance items in Fabric.
Security is an important topic. Hear about the different options how to secure your data in Microsoft Fabric. Extend the knowledge with the options of Microsoft Purview (Information Protection, Sensitivity Labels, Policies and Data Loss Prevention) and how they can be used in Microsoft Fabric.
The Hands-On lab guides you through the Microsoft Purview Portal, allows you to configure policies and extend them to Microsoft Fabric.
3. Data Discovery with Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Purview
In this chapter, we’ll share the concepts of how to elevate Fabric item metadata to the next level. Learn about endorsements, data lineage and how your data users can leverage OneLake catalog to get mor out of your Fabric environment.
Bringing data discovery to the next level with Microsoft Purview is also part of this chapter. Learn about the data governance concepts in Microsoft Purview Unified catalog, the data map, data quality as well as how Purview allows you to govern your whole company data estate.
In Hands-On labs, you’ll practice how to enhance metadata curation in Fabric, see OneLake catalog in action as well as create governance items in Purview and work with the Unified catalog.
4. Real-World Governance Challenges
Dive into common governance pain points across industries—siloed data ownership, lack of transparency, compliance complexity—and explore how Microsoft Fabric and Purview provide actionable, scalable solutions.
5. Best Practices from the Field
Hear directly from consultants (and maybe Microsoft PMs) who helped shape the platform. Learn what works in practice—governance patterns, pitfalls to avoid, and success stories from early adopters.
