Software Architect and Enthusiast

I am a 32yr old international software architect born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. I moved to the states in 2009 to expand my software career. I grew up in a poor family and came from a small rural village with limited access to educational resources however I didn’t let this get in the way in my quest to be adept in the field of computer science.

My decision to pursue computer science started at a very young age when computers were considered a luxury and not a lot of people could afford it. Fortunately, I was privileged enough to witness my first ever computer through my uncle who was a computer engineer employed by Nepal’s Health department. My uncle’s passion was to develop efficient medical solutions through software in Nepal and I was not immune to his passion. My school also played a significant role in igniting my aspirations for computers by providing me lessons during middle school. The first programming language I learned was called QBASIC and the first operating system I used was MSDOS. As a junior in high school, I had enough exposure to understand the basic principles of computer systems and all the peripherals involved but could not wrap my head around the concept of low/high level programming and compilation. Thus, with the mendacity to understand the theories involved, I enrolled in Illinois College with a full tuition scholarship where taking classes like Concepts of Programming and Automata Theory made the once obscure science much more intriguing.

I always was enthralled by how computer systems came together and how each component played an integral role. When I was a kid, I used to break apart my electronic toys and reverse engineer them to create bizarre model that performed a specific function. Most of the toys I designed and created were used in my schools computer science competition which helped me secure first place numerous times.

My goal and passion in life is to continue to embark on this wonderful journey of computer science and provide support to economically challenged and underprivileged kids of rural Nepal. I think technology is one of the most important tool that we can use to create a positive change in rural people’s lives and utilize their true potential. Coming from a similar background, I want to give back to the my people by making computer science more accessible to them. I want to see the next Steve Jobs or Zuckerberg come out from these rural areas. Thus, as a regular attendee of KCDC, I wanted to share my passion with people who think like me and have similar passion – To bring a positive change. Hope , I can get to be a part of this remarkable community that’s ever-thriving.
