EquiProcessing: Building a QGIS Plugin to Automate Maritime Boundary Delimitation

How can complex scientific methods be transformed into practical geospatial tools?

In this session, I will present EquiProcessing, a QGIS plugin designed to support maritime boundary delimitation through geospatial analysis, equidistance calculations, and Voronoi diagrams.

Drawing on my experience in geophysics, geodesy, GIS, and software development, I will share the process of translating specialized scientific requirements into software functionality, integrating computational geometry into a GIS environment, and developing tools to support technical analysis under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The session will include a practical demonstration of the plugin, an overview of its technical approach, and lessons learned from developing a specialized geospatial tool.

Attendees will discover how Python and QGIS can be used to extend open-source GIS capabilities and build solutions for complex real-world scientific problems.
