From Evaluation to Empowerment: Coaching Supervision for School Leaders
Supervision in schools is often treated as evaluation — monitoring, compliance, reporting upward. But today's leaders face genuine complexity, ambiguous problems, and little space for reflection. This interactive workshop introduces non-directive coaching supervision, reframing supervision as a developmental partnership rather than judgment.
Drawing on coaching theory and reflective practice, participants explore how powerful questioning — not advice-giving — transforms supervisory conversations. Supervisors become thinking partners who help leaders surface their own expertise and build judgment, rather than evaluators handing down answers.
The session introduces a practical framework: foundational conditions (trust, confidentiality), supervisory processes (questioning, listening), leadership capacities (critical thinking, adaptive expertise), and outcomes (stronger practice, leader wellbeing).
Participants practice distinguishing coaching from mentoring, spotting the instinct to "rescue" with advice, and rehearsing reflective questioning they can use immediately.
Leaders and supervisors leave with concrete tools to shift supervision toward dialogue that builds leadership capacity.
