Sandra Alexander, MEd
Sandra has worked in child maltreatment prevention for over 50 years. She has developed prevention programs, provided training nationally and internationally, been a prevention voice for local and national media and authored book chapters on prevention. For the past 18 years she has provided subject matter expertise in CDC’s Division of Violence Prevention (DVP) including leadership for the BECAUSE Kids Count initiative, Knowledge to Action Child Maltreatment Prevention Consortium, Essentials for Childhood, and DVP’s Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect: A Technical Package for Policy, Norm and Programmatic Activities. Currently she is a contract consultant in the Policy and Partnership office and is working with the CDC Foundation project team to update the 2007 document on preventing child sexual abuse in youth serving organizations. She is the prevention advocate on the Fulton County Atlanta Child Fatality Review Committee, a past Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia and a past President of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children and currently on the Prevention Committee. Early experience as a child protective services caseworker and supervisor helped inform her prevention work.
