Mapping the marginalized indigenous tribes of Nepal
Chepangs are traditionally nomadic people who relied upon hunting, fishing and the products of the forest. However, the introduction of new government policies which put restrictions on hunting, gathering, and clearing of forest patches, forced the Chepangs to adopt a settled way of life. The change of lifestyle has brought extreme poverty to their community. This has made it a struggle for the community to access basic amenities such as nutritious food, proper housing, safe drinking water, education, and healthcare. The research revolves around the question of how geospatial tools would help to address the major issues of this community. To find out the answers, we are going to prepare different issues-based maps and charts after the interaction with the community. Based on the maps and charts an intense discussion is to be done with the policymakers and the community to devise intervention strategies for addressing the problem.
