Using social network analysis to visualise social capital afforded to the Northwest Applied research

Organisations that conduct research, involve members of the public and communities in coproduction of knowledge so that research is equitable, inclusive, relevant and value for money.
The Applied Research Collaboration Northwest Coast (ARC NWC) is a National Institute of Health Research co-funded member organisation (60+) with academics, health and social care staff, the third sector & Public Advisors (100+), coproducing research with an overarching focus on reducing local health inequalities.
We created and distributed a proforma to understand how our public advisors (PAs) are connected to communities and organisations.
We used location, type of organisation and strength of connection to create tables, maps and network diagrams.
We argue that this is an under used resource and that organisations that involve the public could utilise the experience within their publics to increase knowledge mobilisation, facilitating community engagement and trust in science.
