Shaibal Maji is a Senior IT Manager – E-Commerce with 19 years of experience in building and modernizing large-scale e-commerce systems across the retail, telecom, and media industries. He is currently employed at Ulta Beauty Inc., where he leads commerce platform engineering, supporting 36+ million monthly users and generating over $1 billion in annual revenue.
In his current role, he has led the end-to-end implementation of split cart (multi-fulfillment), marketplace platform launch, Subscribe & Save, and Venmo payment integration. He collaborates with system integrators and enterprise architects to define composable (MACH) architecture roadmaps and has established CI/CD automation, operational monitoring, and post-incident analytics to improve platform stability, uptime, and MTTR. He manages and mentors globally distributed engineering teams.
Previously, as IT Manager, Product Development at Ulta Beauty, Shaibal scaled engineering teams to 80+ members and led commerce platform modernization using MACH architecture, distributed systems, and cloud migration to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). He oversaw the development of 108+ microservices, implemented Auth0 authentication, and ensured API performance under 200 ms at the 95th percentile for millions of weekly users.
Earlier at Ulta Beauty, as Lead Developer, Commerce Platform, he designed and implemented guest-facing APIs and led initiatives including BOPIS, Apple Pay, push notifications, geo-fencing, and store-to-door POS systems deployed across 1,600 U.S. retail stores. He supported mobile commerce platforms serving 1+ million weekly users.
Before Ulta Beauty, Shaibal held technical leadership roles at Tech Mahindra (client: AT&T), Deloitte Digital, Wipro, and Mindtree, where he worked on SaaS commerce migrations, enterprise platform transformations, and high-volume transactional systems using Oracle Commerce (ATG), Hybris, and Java-based architectures.
Shaibal holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Science, an MBA from Boston University (Questrom School of Business), and is currently a Ph.D. doctoral candidate in Information Technology with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence. His technical expertise includes Java, Python, microservices, headless commerce, API-first design, MongoDB, Redis, AWS, GCP, and applied AI for search, personalization, and fraud detection. He has international professional experience working in the United States, Europe, and India.
