Shalagha Mahajan is a Senior Software Engineer at Amazon Lab126 with nearly a decade of experience developing customer-facing software products across smart home technologies, computer vision systems, device software, and cloud infrastructure. She has contributed to the design, development, and delivery of products used by millions of customers across Amazon Alexa, Ring, Fire TV, and FireOS platforms.
Since joining Amazon in 2016, Shalagha has progressed through multiple engineering roles, advancing from Software Engineer to Senior Software Engineer. In her current role, she leads and contributes to strategic initiatives within Amazon's smart home ecosystem. Her work includes leading projects focused on smart home feature discovery experiences in the Alexa app, contributing to the development of the Alexa Map View feature, and leading the introduction of ONVIF-compliant third-party camera support for Ring's small and medium business offerings. These efforts required close collaboration with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end customer experiences.
Before her current position, Shalagha worked on Ring's computer vision platform, where she developed frameworks and pipelines supporting machine learning model testing and deployment at the edge. She also contributed to systems that improved the reliability of Ring cameras during offline operation and power failures. Earlier in her career, she led the reintroduction of mirroring technology to Fire TV devices and implemented several FireOS features, including cinema mode, picture-in-picture mode, and operating system componentization. She also contributed to device software innovations such as Ship Mode, Silent OTA updates, and Fire TV Edition development.
Shalagha's technical expertise spans software engineering, machine learning applications, natural language processing, and device software development. She is experienced in navigating ambiguous product requirements, collaborating across multidisciplinary teams, and mentoring junior engineers. Her programming experience includes C++, Java, React JS, and Go.
Before joining Amazon full-time, Shalagha completed a software engineering internship with AWS EC2, where she developed Python-based tools for launching and evaluating cloud instances across multiple AWS regions.
Shalagha earned a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Southern California, graduating with a GPA of 3.71/4.0. She also holds a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from Jaypee University of Information Technology in India and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Machine Learning through Emeritus in partnership with Columbia Engineering.
