Simon Trockel is a security and platform engineering leader who has been building software since 2009. After working as a freelancer and contributing to three startups, he joined MediaMarktSaturn in 2015, where he built and scaled the cybersecurity team to ten times its original size.

He played a key role in MediaMarktSaturn’s transition to Google Cloud and Kubernetes, working closely with engineering teams to embed security across cloud infrastructure without slowing innovation. In 2021, Simon successfully led the response to a ransomware incident that affected the company’s entire Windows infrastructure—turning a high-pressure crisis into a defining lesson in resilience, collaboration, and practical security.

Since moving into Platform Engineering in 2025, Simon has focused on shifting security left and improving the developer experience through secure, scalable platforms. He has spoken at security conferences across Germany since 2018 and is a co-moderator of mysecurityevent.

His talks combine real-world experience, technical depth, and hard-earned lessons from building teams, securing cloud-native environments, and responding when things go seriously wrong.
