The Rise of Streamzilla at Porsche

Everybody knows Kafka is robust, performant, and scalable.
But its stability and performance depend on the underlying infrastructure, as well as the tools used to deploy and monitor it.

Choosing the best platform and technology stack is not a trivial task when you want to build a hybrid, multi-cloud solution that provides features like multitenacy, self-service and cross-cloud replication.

At Porsche, we strive to offer our clients the simplest possible user experience of adapting a central Kafka cluster and in the same time to be compliant with extremely high security and data integrity standards.

In this talk we will present how we evaluated different platforms and tools, what criteria we used while evaluation possible solutions, and finally - which solution won and how we implemented it while keeping the German engineering mindset.

Porsche’s Digital Twin: Driven by Data Streaming & NoSQL

At Porsche, business use-cases continue to embrace event-driven architectures to tackle Big Data and Fast Data problems.

Here, we talk about our Digital Twin cloud journey and our transition from an on-premise relational database to MongoDB Atlas as the leading data source.

For this we use MongoDB at the ASFaST project to store vehicle data, and use an internal Data Streaming solution dubbed Streamzilla, to successfully integrate MongoDB and Apache Kafka.

0 - 330 km/h - Porsche's Data Streaming Journey

The auto industry is midst a data revolution that is transforming how companies do business. Once a scarce resource, data has now become abundant and cheap.

What are the new technologies that change the way we produce, collect, process, store, and analyze data.

What new streams of data are being created with Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things on the horizon, is there significant value to taking a strategic approach to Fast Data.

Splunk .conf21

Sridhar Mamella, Data Streaming Manager, Porsche AG

Data Streaming is a very important part of Porsche's IT strategy. In 2019, Porsche started work on its new central data streaming platform dubbed Streamzilla, which is based on Apache Kafka and NiFi. The aim was to minimize support costs, prevent future data loss and provide all product teams at Porsche with an optimal data streaming platform — whether in development, production or customer service, creating an overall customer-centric data streaming service. This successfully enabled many new ideas and new use cases to be adopted and implemented quickly. Here we'll talk about how Splunk helped us, especially in the early days of the platform, to monitor logs, detect patterns and make swift changes while in production.
