Synapse Serverless SQL pool overiview

Serverless SQL pool is T-SQL based scalable, big data query service that comes built-in within Azure Synapse Analytics. It enables users to query data in the lake in seconds up to several minutes depending on the complexity of the query and data size. The service enables big data querying and processing for semi-structured and structured files on Azure Storage and Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 without the need to manage hardware or software resources.

Due to serverless model – user’s only action is to write and issue the query and the system will automatically scale to provide necessary resources for the query to be executed it. Serverless billing model is pay per query based on the amount of data being processed. If you don’t run any queries you don’t pay!
This Synapse capability is best suitable for ad-hoc data exploration -> convenient and efficient way to quickly explore and understand data in data lake; and analytics over files in data lake -> querying files stored on ADLS gen2 and serving the data to downstream BI stack.

In this session you will have a chance to get a better understanding of what Synapse SQL serverless is, a practical examples about how you can use it and what are the best practices.
