Single Codebase? I'll PaaS
A few months ago I joined a new company. They were in the middle of building their infrastructure as code, platform as a service - fully cloud native microservices architecture. I had previously worked with Ruby on Rails - a monolithic (read: single codebase) bare metal application. I want to share my unique experience with this transition and the shift in mindset I had to make to understand this new and exciting infrastructure.
Firebase: Making Real-time a Reality
Necessity is the mother of invention. And in 2020, our necessities changed drastically. #workfromhome started trending and it’s still going strong for a lot of us. In an effort to feel a sense of togetherness from the comfort of our home, let’s not forget the importance of real-time interaction. In this session, I will talk about how Firebase’s realtime database can be leveraged for a number of use cases and how I used it in my application.
Blockchain on Flutter - Mistakes were made
A few months ago I decided to pick 3 technologies I had never used before to build a mobile app. I ended up picking blockchain, QR codes and elasticsearch. Despite having been around for a while, I wasn’t able to uncover a lot of documentation on building mobile apps using blockchain. In this session I want to demonstrate how I built a blockchain app using Flutter. I will also be sharing all the mistakes I made (and encourage everyone to make) along the way, since the best way to learn is to make mistakes.
Blockchain and Kafka - A Modern Love Story
After familiarizing myself with blockchain over the past couple years, I noticed a few caveats and setbacks that make blockchain a ‘not-so-ideal’ solution to record tracking in a P2P network. It’s not as scalable and it’s quite slow in a busy network. Enter Apache Kafka, with its high performance and immutable logging. In this talk, I want to explore the relationship between Blockchain and Kafka and demonstrate how the two technologies can benefit from each other. If you’re interested in the future of blockchain and love Kafka, this is definitely up your alley.
Combining Blockchain, Elasticsearch and QR Codes
Last year I made a list of technologies from A-Z that I am thankful for. Then I picked 3 at random to use for my next side project. I ended up with Blockchain, Elasticsearch and… QR codes. In this talk I’ll be sharing what I built, how I built it and what I learned from the experience. I will be going into detail about how I was able to effortlessly (for the most part) use the Elastic stack to provide visibility on blockchain transactions being made in real time. 10/10 would recommend.
