Sumanth Muthineni is a data platform engineer at Zelis Healthcare, specializing in automated data governance, high-availability architecture, and AI-driven reliability. Since March 2019, he has designed and directed the data platform architecture for Zelis's core payment processing pipelines, which manage high-volume claims data for national health insurers, including Cigna and Aetna. He built ETL processes for claims data across 35 payers and led the migration of nine critical enterprise data marts from legacy SSIS, Oracle, and SQL Server environments to DBT Cloud and Snowflake, cutting processing time by more than 80% (from 8–9 hours to 1 hour 40 minutes). He also architected a Python data-ingestion framework that became the enterprise-wide blueprint for onboarding multi-source data into Snowflake.
Sumanth has led cross-functional teams of 4 to 6 engineers, analysts, and security specialists on automated governance frameworks, cross-cloud disaster recovery architectures, and NIST SP 800-34 compliance implementations, and he mentors engineering teams on data reliability best practices. Earlier in his career, he held data architecture roles at the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and Esri.
He is the recipient of the ICDPN Fusion Award 2026 for AI Innovator of the Year and serves as a peer reviewer for international IEEE conferences, including IEEE SISCON LATAM 2026, IEEE ISPA 2026 & IIPEM 2026 and IEEE ICETICS 2027, evaluating system architectures and data reliability frameworks. He holds an M.S. in Computer Information Systems from New England College, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, and a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Kakatiya University.
