Formally trained as a medical sociologist, I am currently a Professor of Behavioral Science - one of several departmental Special Title Series (educational) faculty. After stepping down in 2018 after serving 17 years as Assistant Dean for Student Assessment & Program Evaluation in the U.K. College of Medicine’s (UK COM) Office of Medical Education, I now teach students at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. I maintain an interest in professional (medical) education research, with an expanded focus on pre-health professions and biomedical training. I currently serve on the UK COM Biomedical Education Curriculum Committee, the department’s internal CTS curriculum committee, and chair of the CTS Graduate Admissions Committee. In addition, I am a co-investigator on two NIH-funded projects which provide grantsmanship training and assistance to biomedical faculty at minority serving institutions (MSIs) across the U.S. – and well as program evaluator on a large NIH P30 center project examining various environmental health issues in rural (primarily) Appalachia.
