ImageGoNord - A python library to convert any image into any custom palette
In this talk we will show the demo of the open source library created to convert each image into the Nordtheme or any custom input palette made by the user.
The lib is written in Python and uses Pillow. It is completely open source and anyone can download and use or try it directly on our site hosted on Netlify and Heroku at ign.schrodinger-hat.it.
During our speech we will talk about the idea behind, the project architecture and our experience in the open source world. We will also do a little demo of what the library does and the results it has brought.
The Nord community has responded positively especially on Reddit, but also other communities such as graphic designer.
Optimize UX and performance through Grafana, Prometheus and Lighthouse
At MailUp we always develop to improve. Lighthouse is a tool that allows us to analyze our page and returns important metrics that allow us to operate to optimize performance and UX. We have created a tool that, thanks to Docker containers, allows us to quickly analyze our platform and view the data in the Grafana Dashboard. In this talk we will analyze our use case, show the architecture behind our software, how we automated the lighthouse test with Puppeteer in a Docker container and AWS Cloud environment.
A PWA to transcript your Whatsapp audio file
In this talk I'll share with you a draft proposal of the W3C(https://w3c.github.io/web-share-target/) about an API, the Web Share Target API, that allows websites to declare themselves as web share targets, which can receive shared content from either the Web Share API, or system events like the native applications.
In the talk we can see some real examples. I made also a little PoC in order to solve one of my real problems: transcript the voice note of whatsapp and just read what the person was talking about :)
Automate everything via NodeJS and Puppeteer
Automation is the key. I've developed a lot of tool using NodeJS and Puppeteer as stack in order to automate a process, a test, a human task.
In this talk I'm gonna show you two real examples:
- automate a video to audio conversion from YouTube to Anchor.fm
- automate a lighthouse test on your website (with auth support)
Covid-19 - A crowdsourced map for checking supermarket wait times worldwide
In March 2020 the world is completely blocked and people are lining up to shop or to the pharmacy or to buy basic necessities.
There have been many initiatives and among these I have created a worldwide map that allows anyone to check the estimated waiting times of supermarkets, pharmacies and places of interest.
In addition to this, I gave people the opportunity to check waiting times and correct them through a crowdsourcing mechanism.
All this, to be fast in development and in responding to requests, has exploited Redis with its geospatial indexes.
The opensource project has obtained more than 2Mln visits in about 3 months of life, until June 2020 when the pandemic slowed down.
In this talk we will see the architecture and the problems I encountered and solved with Redis.
