10 years in product. 6 years in AI, starting on AI drone ships for the military. Dozens of shipped products still used today. Tech work spanning Sony, Walmart, the U.S. Department of Defense, and high-growth startups.

Most of my career has been spent inside fast-moving teams where everything needed to be done yesterday. So I have often been product manager, designer, prototype builder, sales team, and marketer all in the same week.

That gave me a very practical view of AI and how to make people care about it, which led me to start making AI explainers on YouTube.

My work has now reached 7M+ people and 41K+ subscribers. I have also worked with AI companies, research labs, and YC startups to help tell their stories clearly, including Higgsfield AI, Emergent AI, Brilliant, Stanford Human-Centered AI Lab, the Center for AI Safety, SerpAPI, and Abacus AI.

Humans, not Users: Shifting Paradigms in Interface Design and Learning from Apple's HIG

In this seminar, we will evaluate the importance of human-centric design philosophy in the field of interface design. Supporting a shift in perspective when building software systems, we will dive into why the design of interfaces should not solely be a functional endeavor, but one deeply rooted in empathy, inclusivity, and the diversity of human experiences. The aim is to go beyond the traditional idea of a 'user' and instead emphasize the 'human' at the other end of the interface: a concept that the majority of modern systems have lost.

Using Apple's Human Interface Guidelines (HIG) as a focus, this seminar will delve into key areas such as the role of emotion in design, the integration of human psychology for intuitive interfacing, attraction of users, cost saving benefits and and the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in design strategies. The purpose is to critically assess these guidelines, understand their impact on current interface design, and derive insights that could assist in creating future interfaces that balance aesthetic appeal with human-friendly functionality.

Let's Skip the Buzz Words: Truly Understanding GenAI
