Tips and Tricks for bringing legacy Windows apps into Kubernetes

Kubernetes and DevOps are synonymous of innovation. However, there are many applications that could benefit from a modern platform - with minor adjustments, and sometimes no code changes. In this session we explore how traditional Windows applications can be brought to a modern platform, such as Kubernetes, and take advantage of DevOps practices. We will explore SLL certificate management, hardcoded configuration, update and upgrades, ecosystem tools, mixed mode (Linux and Windows) clusters, and more. This is a demo heavy session!

Migrating Windows apps (and your IT skills) to Windows containers on Azure

You’ve heard about containers and Kubernetes, right? Most likely you know what they are but have no idea what IT/Ops have to do with it. In this session we will dive into why IT professionals should learn about these technologies, how to migrate existing applications from Windows Server to Windows containers, and how to manage them on Azure. We'll cover tips and tricks based on real life scenarios and how it improves IT Ops practices. It's a must see if you plan to manage modern applications and infrastructure.

Lessons from the field: Modernizing apps with Kubernetes and Windows

While companies create new microservices-based, born in the cloud, cloud native applications, DevOps and SREs are faced with the challenge of also keeping the lights on for existing apps. In this session we will cover lessons from companies that modernized Windows applications with Kubernetes, what are the most common development and operations pitfalls and how to avoid them, what are the tips and tricks to gain performance, what tools and runtimes to use when adopting Kubernetes and Windows, and how to better run legacy code on Kubernetes. We will also explore open-source projects that companies can rely on and engage as a community. Finally, we will provide demonstrations with real-life scenarios and options for companies getting started into this process.

Generations apart, working together - Integrate Kubernetes and Active Directory

There are millions of Active Directory (AD) dependent applications running out there. AD has been around for 20+ years and is still the foundation authentication of many enterprises. For many organizations, relying on AD is a blocker to modernize applications on Kubernetes. In this session we will cover how the Kubernetes community solved this. We will walk through the architecture of Kubernetes changes for AD integration, what are the requirements for it to work, and showcase a sample scenario and application working end-to-end. Finally, we will provide tips-and-tricks on what to avoid based on real life stories.
