Wendy Horton, MBA, PharmD, FACHE, is the Senior Vice President and President of Adult Services at UCSF Health, one of the nation’s top 10 hospitals. A nationally recognized healthcare leader, she has dedicated her career to advancing strategic growth, operational excellence, and patient-centered care while maintaining a strong commitment to community well-being and service.

She focuses on improving healthcare quality and innovation by enhancing care delivery and utilizing technology to support both patients and care teams more effectively. With a background in clinical pharmacy and extensive leadership experience at leading academic medical centers, she brings together clinical expertise, operational strength, and a focus on safety and quality to achieve meaningful results in healthcare delivery.

Before joining UCSF Health, she served as CEO of UVA Health University Medical Center and System COO of UVA Health, a $4.5 billion health system with more than 17,000 team members and 1,200 faculty members in Charlottesville, Virginia. During her five-year tenure, she guided significant statewide expansion efforts, developing partnerships and acquisitions that broadened access and strengthened care coordination. Under her leadership, the system doubled in size and launched programs such as the earn-while-you-learn workforce initiative. She also advanced community health efforts, promoted leadership transparency, and fostered a culture of safety and inclusion. She prioritized engagement through listening sessions, town halls, and clinical rounds, established the Center for Advanced Practice for more than 700 APPs, and reduced reliance on travel nurses by over 75%.

Previously, she served as Chief Administrative Officer at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, part of a $4 billion academic health system. There, she improved recruitment efficiency by over 80%, introduced a $340 million physician compensation plan, and increased research funding by 28.4% to $269.4 million. Earlier in her career, she worked at the University of Wisconsin, where she served as Vice President of Operations, overseeing professional and support services and helping complete a new hospital.
