William Steinberg has consistently pursued environments that demand rigor, adaptability, and sustained intellectual curiosity. Raised in a Marine Corps family, he spent his formative years relocating frequently as his father served nearly 35 years as a pilot. That experience instilled discipline and flexibility while fueling an early fascination with how complex systems operate. Alongside his technical interests, he cultivated creative and athletic pursuits, learning to play guitar and competing in basketball, which helped shape his balanced, resilient approach to problem-solving.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Old Dominion University, where academic theory and practical application reinforced his interest in engineering depth. During this time, he completed a six-month internship at NASA’s Langley Research Center, contributing to Project HALOE in support of space shuttle missions that gathered solar data. He later earned a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Northridge, was inducted into Tau Beta Pi, and gained substantial hands-on experience with embedded systems, digital hardware, and signal processing.

William began his professional career at McDonnell Douglas in California, contributing to aircraft development programs, including the MD-80, MD-11, and C-17. His work focused on embedded firmware, operating system software, and airborne data acquisition tools that required meticulous coding, testing, and low-level debugging. He later joined Sonatech in Santa Barbara, where he designed controllers and embedded software for underwater acoustic tracking systems used in military and commercial applications, further refining his ability to deliver highly reliable systems.

In 1994, William relocated to New York City to join Morgan Stanley’s Institutional Technology Division, marking his transition into the financial industry. Over the following decades, he worked on C++ trading infrastructure, mortgage-backed securities platforms, and equities trading systems, delivering real-time data across global desks. His leadership expanded as he managed teams responsible for application management, distributed systems, and the operational stability of mission-critical trading environments.

In 2008, he joined Goldman Sachs, where he spent over 14 years supporting Equities Electronic Market Making and Quantitative Trading groups. As Vice President, William Steinberg contributed to market-making platforms, futures trading systems, desk-level risk management, ETF workflows, and exchange integrations. He returned to Morgan Stanley in 2023 as an Executive Director, leading global C++ risk control development while remaining committed to mentorship, philanthropy, and continuous professional growth.
