Yanan Liang is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML), Leiden University. Her PhD research focuses on the material requirements for the global energy transition. She quantifies these requirements under different energy scenarios by integrating dynamic material flow analysis (MFA) with integrated assessment models (IAMs). Her work primarily addresses the energy system and encompasses emerging technologies such as wind power, photovoltaics, electric vehicle batteries, and green hydrogen, as well as conventional technologies like fossil fuel infrastructure. Currently, she is involved in the EU-funded Maditrace project.
