Yousuf Gaffar, M.D., is a physician specializing in hematology and medical oncology with almost 20 years of experience focused on improving cancer care through personalized treatment and precision research. Throughout his career, he has worked to connect advances in oncology and hematology with practical solutions that support patients and their families during difficult medical journeys.

Dr. Gaffar believes cancer care requires more than medical treatment alone. He focuses on building trust with patients, providing clear guidance, and helping individuals understand their options. Dr. Gaffar earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Saba University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he also served as Chief Resident. His interest in cancer research led him to pursue a fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at USF-Moffitt Cancer Center. During his fellowship, he conducted research in Genitourinary (GU) and Senior Adult oncology, further developing his expertise in cancer treatment.

Board-certified in hematology and medical oncology, Dr. Gaffar continues to stay updated on advances in the field. His dedication to learning allows him to incorporate new treatment options and research findings into his clinical practice.

A significant part of Dr. Gaffar’s career has been dedicated to clinical research. He has developed and led community-oncology-based research programs designed to bring new cancer therapies closer to patients. These programs have achieved national recognition among leading clinical trial sites and have received multiple awards from research networks such as US Oncology.

As Medical Director of Medical Oncology Research for AdventHealth Rocky Mountain Region, Dr. Gaffar continues to support innovation in cancer treatment. His work helps provide patients with access to clinical trials that may otherwise only be available through large academic institutions. He also works with research organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and healthcare providers to advance treatment options.

Dr. Gaffar treats a wide range of cancers, including breast, lung, gastrointestinal (GI), genitourinary (GU), blood, and benign hematology conditions. His patient care philosophy centers on communication, empathy, and individualized treatment planning. He believes every patient has unique goals and values that should be considered when developing a care plan.

Throughout his career, Dr. Gaffar has received recognition for his work in oncology. He has been selected as a “Top Doctor” in the Baltimore area and has contributed to cancer research through published manuscripts in medical journals. He also speaks at medical conferences about cancer drug development, immunotherapies, and applying discoveries in clinical practice.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Gaffar enjoys ballroom dancing, gardening, hiking, and competitive axe throwing. These interests provide balance and reflect his appreciation for focus, creativity, and personal growth.

Dr. Gaffar is also committed to community service. He has volunteered with the American Cancer Society and served as a board member of the Baltimore Cancer Support Group from 2005-2024. Through these efforts, he has supported cancer awareness, patient advocacy, and resources for individuals and families affected by cancer.

As he approaches 20 years in medical practice, Dr. Gaffar remains focused on advancing oncology research and improving patient care. He is currently recertifying his board certifications in Medical Oncology and Hematology to continue maintaining his knowledge and skills. His mission remains centered on advancing cancer treatment, educating patients, and bringing hope to those facing cancer.
