Yuri Geronimus is a Senior Staff Engineer and Chief Architect specializing in end-to-end payments infrastructure. He designs and delivers systems across the full lifecycle of money movement - from EMV-certified payment devices to cloud-native gateways and terminal management systems (TMS) -supporting 100K+ devices and processing/handling ~50M daily events. He is known for taking systems from greenfield builds to production at scale, and for modernizing 25-year-old legacy codebases without compromising uptime, security, or compliance.

At Verifone, Yuri leads architecture for mission-critical payment solutions across multiple markets and product lines, spanning both attended and unattended devices. He has helped unify gateway, TMS, and merchant-facing platforms, modernize large terminal fleets, and improve delivery outcomes through platform engineering and operational discipline - while working under PCI DSS, EMV L3, and ISO 8583 constraints. His technical focus is building “boringly reliable” payment systems: idempotent processing, reconciliation and financial truth, safe migrations, strong observability, and certification tooling that reduces risk and accelerates release cycles.

As a JetBrains Kotlin Early Access Program (EAP) Champion, he provides production feedback from regulated fintech systems (Android and backend services), helping teams de-risk upgrades and accelerate Kotlin adoption.

His technical toolkit spans Java, Kotlin, C/C++, TypeScript/Node.js with expertise in Kubernetes, AWS, and databases including PostgreSQL, Oracle DB, MongoDB, and ClickHouse. He is recognized for building systems with strong observability, reliability, idempotency, reconciliation, safe migrations, and certification tooling - critical in compliance-heavy environments.

Earlier, Yuri built PCI DSS–compliant banking process automation and IT service platforms for major European banks, supporting 200K+ monthly active users. His work increased critical service availability from 98% to 99.98%, reduced MTTR by 5×, and improved RTO by 4×. He has received multiple innovation awards at global, EMEA, and national levels.
