Kotlin Beyond Code: Growing Android & KMPs Open Ecosystem

Kotlin Open Source is more than code — it’s collaboration, learning, and community.

In this session, we’ll dive deep into the open-source culture within the Android and Kotlin ecosystem, exploring what it takes to build, maintain, and grow impactful projects.

I’ll share my own journey contributing to open-source — from creating Kotlin libraries (one reaching ~300 stars on GitHub) to contributing to projects like BitChat Android (by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey). Along the way, I’ve learned what works, what doesn’t, and how developers can meaningfully start contributing, whether it’s fixing a small issue or maintaining an entire library.

We’ll explore:
- How to start contributing and maintaining to open source - both Library and Project
- Lessons from building and scaling community-driven Android/Kotlin projects
- Common challenges in sustaining open-source libraries and projects (and how to overcome them)

Why contribution isn’t just about code — it’s about people, reviews, and collaboration

Kotlin Over the Air: Reimagining Android/KMP App Delivery

Every Android team has asked this question:

"Why do we need a Play Store release for a small UI change?"

Server-driven UI promised faster iterations, but most solutions still hit the same limit - they can change screens, not behavior.

In this talk, I'll show how we built a system that delivers native Jetpack Compose experiences over the air without shipping a new app version. Using Kotlin compiler plugins, a lightweight on-device VM, and modern Android tooling, it runs code that never existed in the APK.

You'll learn:

* Why JSON-based approaches eventually become limiting.
* How native Compose can be delivered dynamically.
* How the system stays secure, Play Store compliant, and maintainable.
* How AI can generate features that are ready to run instantly.

Whether you're into Compose, Android tooling, or simply shipping features faster, this talk will change how you think about app updates.
