Designing, Governing and Operating Advanced Copilot Studio Agents

This full-day workshop is aimed at technical makers, developers and solution architects who already use Copilot Studio and want to build agents that work reliably in real-world scenarios. We’ll start with agent design, focusing on prompt guidance, context management and grounding techniques that help reduce hallucinations and improve consistency from day one. Attendees will leave with clear design patterns they can apply immediately in their own projects.

From there, we’ll move into the challenges that appear once agents move beyond demos and into production. Based on real-world projects, we’ll cover authentication and authorisation, cost control and usage limits, and how to design effective human-in-the-loop flows. You’ll also learn how to use Dataverse with an MCP server and we will show how to bring services like Microsoft Foundry and AI Search into Copilot Studio in a controlled and practical way. The day follows the natural lifecycle of an agent, iterating through design, to testing, to operation and evaluation.

The workshop will be delivered by Microsoft MVPs Andrew Bibby and Cathrine Bruvold and is structured into clear modules, each supported by hands-on labs and guided exercises. Labs will cover refining prompts at agent and topic level, securing agent tools, monitoring behaviour in Copilot Studio and the Agent 365 workspace, and refining agent functionality over time. By the end of the day, you’ll have practical experience and a clear framework for designing, running and improving production-ready agents.

Key takeaways from this workshop:
- Design agents with clear boundaries and guidance to improve agent accuracy and ensure consistent results
- Apply governance, security and human-in-the-loop patterns to run agents safely in production
- Use a lifecycle approach to test, monitor and continuously improve agent behaviour over time

The Importance of Agent Design in Copilot Studio

Agents worth building require intentional design, but most makers haven't been taught what that means yet. As agent-to-agent architecture becomes the new standard, understanding how it shapes performance, maintainability and user experience is no longer optional.

Join Business Applications MVPs Cathrine Bruvold and Andrew Bibby for a practical session on how to get good at agent design in Copilot Studio and why it matters more than you might realise. We will explore why agents don't always deliver what you've asked of them and how to write instructions that actually work. Then we go further and dive into orchestrator agents that delegate intelligently to specialist child agents, rather than doing all the heavy lifting themselves. Learn from their hard-won knowledge as they shares the need-to-know non-negotiables when building agents today.

Leave with a clearer sense of what good agent design looks like and exactly what it takes to get there. Understand how agent-to-agent architecture affect performance, reusability, maintainability and differ from single agent systems. Get insights on how to leverage and simplify instructions to optimise agent execution.

Fantastic Power Apps for Functional Makers!

Fantastic Power Apps are not accidental, they are designed with intention and built to age well. In this session, MVPs Cathrine Bruvold and Andrew Bibby explore what actually separates mediocre Power Apps from truly fantastic ones. Drawing on real-world experience, and plenty of our own mistakes, we share lessons learned from apps that survived and thrived, as well as those that didn’t.

Rather than focusing solely on code optimisation, we discuss and look at how to avoid common pitfalls that negatively impact performance, user experience and long-term complexity through deliberate design decisions. Learn about practical techniques for building apps more efficiently, structures for handling scalability and improving Power Apps design to be modern as well as visually appealing without sacrificing performance.

Then theory becomes practice. In the live demo, patterns to avoid are contrasted with patterns to adopt by "building an app live on stage" - brave! Common development mistakes are highlighted first, before applying the discussed principles to transform the app from decent and "working", to fantastic!

We are super excited to showcase some of the most valuable learnings from our projects, and can´t wait to discuss these important aspects of Power Apps development in order to help YOU succeed.

Key takeaways:

- Design decisions matter more than individual optimisations
- Recognise and replace development patterns that create hidden complexity in Power Apps.
- Apply advanced techniques with intention, not excess, to improve app quality, performance and aspects of longevity maintenance

Extending Model-Driven Apps with Custom Pages

Model-driven apps provide value through structure and security, but the most impactful user experiences are often linked to reduction of friction in everyday work. In this session, MVPs Andrew Bibby and Cathrine Bruvold explore how Power Apps custom pages can be used to thoughtfully extend model-driven apps and Dynamics 365, creating landing experiences and contextual interactions that guide users, surface the right information for decision-making and close functional gaps through custom design.

Rather than presenting the technical implementation of custom pages step-by-step, this session focuses on showcasing great use cases and extensibility scenarios. Through real-world examples, inspirational ideas and live demos, you will learn how custom pages can bring together organisational data and external information into purpose-built experiences that support existing processes. Understand patterns for using custom pages as entry points, interaction with data, AI and Copilot Studio Agents, and how intentional design can improve data accessibility and reduce manual effort by bringing multiple processes into a single, coherent user interface.

Attendees will leave inspired with a new perspective on model-driven apps, not as "one of the many" rigid business systems, but as flexible foundations that can be extended with intention and creativity using custom pages.

Impactful Development: Extending Power Apps with Custom Code

Not every business challenge can be solved using low-code alone. By leveraging the strengths of rapid Power Platform development combined with the flexibility of custom code, fusion developers and functional makers are empowered to deliver highly impactful business solutions!

Don’t Wait for Errors: Monitoring Power Platform in Real Time

Your users shouldn't be your monitoring system in Power Platform. But with no overall dashboard or a single source of truth, staying in control is genuinely hard when every maker can build and publish a feature or a bug 🐛 anywhere. Monitoring isn't optional, but shadow IT and error handling is.

In this session, MVPs Cathrine Bruvold and Andrew Bibby take you on a hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting adventure packed with ✨ demos ✨. We kick off in the Power Platform Admin Center, exploring Usage reports to identify irregularities before they become incidents and proactive monitoring Alerts that flag problems early. Then it's over to Power Apps Monitor to watch issues unfold live from the user's perspective, giving you as a developer real app insights. From apps to flows, we move into Automation Center in Power Automate to keep an eye on every run, ensuring everything is up to speed. To close out, we bring in Agent Review in Power CAT Tools, showing you how to validate and analyse your Copilot Studio agents before they hit production.

You will leave knowing how and where to look for problems and symptoms proactively in PPAC. Understand how to spot issues before they escalate. Learn how to analyse app, agent and flow performance in real time in the Studio, and capture the live user experience to diagnose problems quickly 🚀
