Originally a graphic designer at leading agencies like P&P Link, Cedric transitioned into the world of no-code development and digital leadership, eventually founding We are Geekin'—the premier media platform for gaming and pop culture in the Indian Ocean.
A "geek at heart" who grew up on a diet of retro platformers and PC strategy games, he is now a leading advocate for the professionalization of the Mauritian gaming sector. By organizing local game jams and bridging the gap between creative passion and technical execution, Cedric is dedicated to transforming Mauritius from a consumer of global gaming content into a hub of original indie development.
From passion (and no coding background) to making our first game
Dive into the whirlwind journey of creating a game from scratch in just four days for a game jam! As a designer with no formal coding experience, I'll share how my cousin and I, leveraging the power of Godot and a shared passion, brought our vision to life. This session details our rapid development process, highlighting the challenges of learning basic GDScript on the fly to bridge the gap between design and functionality.
I'll focus on how design thinking and collaborative teamwork compensated for our initial coding limitations, and how we effectively utilized Godot’s features to animate and implement game mechanics.

I'm excited & honoured to present this year's DEVCONMU conversation under the umbrella of gaming. We welcome a special guest Cedric Sookahet, a local gamer with years of experience who will discuss with us the emerging gaming trends both in Mauritius & Internationally. 🕹
Cedric Sookahet started his career as a graphic designer and today is head of digital in a development startup. He has always been a geek at heart and spent his childhood playing Sonic the Hedgehog on the Mega Drive, his early teen years playing strategic games on PC (age of empires, warcraft, starcraft to name a few) and most recently playing Indie games, esport titles and MMORPGs. In 2019, Cedric founded the first geek platform in Mauritius, Geekin’ Moris, which has now expanded internationally and is known as We are Geekin’. We are Geekin’ is an online media and community, dedicated to sharing gaming, tech and pop culture news. Cedric has had the opportunity to interview and speak to various gaming studio heads and publishers from the US, Canada, Spain and Lithuania.
