Find the Hours: AI Impact on Student Support and Equity
Every charter school has good people spending hours on work that keeps them away from students and school-growing activities. They’re layering complex filters to pull custom reports, chasing SPED deadlines, trying to flag kids at risk of leaving, and matching students to teachers for the best fit. These tasks demand massive amounts of data often housed in individual spreadsheets, SIS, inboxes, and enrollment forms that must be combed through before an informed decision can be made. That’s the grunt work AI should be pulling so your people can put their time into the parts of the job they love: the students and school!
This is a hands-on session. Attendees will learn of real world AI-driven strategies that measurably improved student support, advising, placement, retention, and SPED compliance to be inspired for their own use cases. School Leaders will then be guided through a quick time-audit of their own student support work to sort each task into one of three buckets: 1) AI should handle it, 2) AI should assist a person, and 3) what remains solely human. We'll cover the equity and privacy concerns before any student data touches a tool, and how to tell a real solution from a demo. Attendees will pick one project small enough to prove itself in a semester, and everyone leaves with a completed plan for their own school.

Building AI Powered Assistants Safely in Google Workspace for Education
(Co-presenter) Schools are eager to explore AI-powered assistants, but safe implementation requires more than turning on a new feature. In this interactive session, attendees will watch a custom AI assistant be built live in Google Workspace for Education using Gemini and custom Gems. As the assistant takes shape, we will examine the privacy, security, governance, and compliance decisions schools should address before allowing AI to interact with tools such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, Calendar, and Chat. Google supports custom Gems for qualifying work and school accounts, and admins can control whether Gemini can connect to Google apps and whether Gemini features are enabled in Workspace services. Participants will engage in real-world scenarios and guided discussions focused on student data protection, staff use, acceptable use boundaries, and rollout decisions in a K-12 environment. Attendees will leave with a practical framework for introducing AI more safely in schools and a clearer understanding of the guardrails available in Google Workspace for Education. Google states that, for school accounts using Gemini Apps, chats and uploaded files are not reviewed by human reviewers and are not used to improve generative AI models, which makes this an especially relevant environment for school leaders evaluating AI use.

From Idea to Solution: Using Natural Language and AI to Build Practical Tools
(Co-presenter) What if IT leaders could turn everyday challenges into working solutions just by describing what they need? In this interactive 45-minute session, participants will explore how to use AI as a collaborative partner for planning, problem-solving, and rapid natural-language solution design. Rather than needing deep coding expertise, attendees will learn how to "think out loud" with AI, refine ideas through iterative prompting, and move from rough concepts to practical tools that support real educational and operational needs. Using examples relevant to school and district leaders, this session will demonstrate how AI can help generate workflows, draft solution logic, prototype internal tools, and support custom use cases that fit the unique needs of educational organizations. Participants will leave with practical strategies, prompt frameworks, and greater confidence in using AI not just as a tool, but as a creative partner in building solutions.
