With over 15 years in the Java ecosystem, I focus on growing and supporting global communities across the Java and Jakarta EE landscape. My work centers on creating opportunities for learning, collaboration and open source participation, helping individuals develop their skills, advance their careers and play a more active role in the Java community.

I have led educational initiatives, community programs and industry events that bring together developers, open source contributors and technology teams. A regular speaker at Java and open source conferences, I collaborate closely with Java User Groups, Java Champions and ecosystem leaders to amplify community voices and encourage knowledge sharing.

As one of the original team members at Payara, I helped shape the company’s brand and grow its global user community from the ground up. Today, as a Senior Developer Advocate at Azul, I continue to support and strengthen communities around Azul Payara Community, Jakarta EE and OpenJDK, driving education and collaboration while bringing community insight back into the evolution of enterprise Java technologies.

Open-Source Contribution – Why is it worth the hassle?

The primary objective of this talk is to encourage developers and the wider tech community to actively engage in open source contribution. By doing so, they can tap into a vast pool of knowledge, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and contribute to the greater good of the software industry.

The talk will delve into several key aspects of open source projects contribution, such as:

Empowering Collaboration: OS contribution fosters a collaborative environment where developers can learn from one another, gain exposure to diverse perspectives, and collectively create robust and innovative software solutions. By sharing their expertise and skills, contributors can actively shape the future of technology.

Skill Enhancement: Engaging in OS projects provides an invaluable opportunity for developers to refine their skills, expand their knowledge, and explore new technologies. Through hands-on experience and exposure to real-world challenges, contributors can enhance their problem-solving abilities and gain a competitive edge in the job market.

Mastering the JUG-gle: What Java User Groups Can Teach Us About Growing Open Source Communities

Open source communities don’t grow by magic - they grow through people, consistency, and connection.

In this talk, we’ll look at what Java User Groups (JUGs) have taught us about the real challenges of building and sustaining a technical community: from geographical and cultural differences to collaboration gaps, and keeping momentum over time. Using lessons from experienced JUG organizers, we’ll highlight how strong local leadership, regular engagement, and a focus on people - not just code - can drive long-term growth in any open source community.

Whether you're running a meetup, managing an open source project, or trying to revive community interest, these insights will help you keep the JUG-gle going.

Invisible Impact: How Your Code Drives Business Value

You write code, ship features, fix bugs and improve performance or developer experience. Meanwhile, revenue, pipeline and strategy are tracked elsewhere.

But what if your work is already influencing all of those things?

Every time you choose a library, improve documentation or recommend a tool, you are shaping what gets adopted, trusted and ultimately paid for. Long before sales teams get involved, developers are already influencing which technologies gain trust inside organisations.

This talk examines the often invisible layer of software adoption, the part of technology business driven by code, community and developer experience, rather than sales outreach or paid marketing campaigns. It highlights why traditional metrics often fail to capture this influence, creating a blind spot in how organisations understand developer value.

The talk explores how to make developer impact more visible by connecting everyday engineering work to outcomes like lead generation, adoption, retention and long-term revenue. It demonstrates how to translate what you do into language the business understands, without needing to turn yourself into a marketer.

DIY Technical Marketing - Real World Tips For Building A Successful Developer Brand

Software development industry is getting more and more competitive - if you want to grow your skills and develop your career, being good at coding is not enough - you also need to build a strong personal brand. During this talk, we will dive into 6 key marketing strategies and practical techniques that will help you elevate your personal brand.

Using some real world examples collected over many years of working with Java developers, this talk will show you how to effectively communicate your skills and your unique value, expand your professional network, and how to leverage various platforms to showcase your expertise.
