Shell of an Idea: Some of the Untold PowerShell Stories that Microsoft People Can't Share
If you're at Summit, then you've probably heard of PowerShell [grin]. But did you know it very nearly didn't exist? And do you know some of the underlying reasons why some of the stuff in PowerShell is the way it is? I spent more than a year collecting stories from the original team members, and retold them in "Shell of an Idea: The Untold History of PowerShell." Now, for the first (and probably only) time, I'm going to share some of them live... including some of the details I didn't feel could be included in the book. Warning: a bit of coarse language does happen. Along the way, I'll share some of the original guiding philosophies, the awkward compromises, and the sudden pivots that helped make PowerShell a reality. And, as interesting as all that is, the untold story of PowerShell is very much a story of how to "get sh!t done" as a scrappy, visionary team in a large and complex organization—a "Phoenix Project" for the PowerShell community.
How Community, Teams, and Awesomeness Happens: Lessons from 20 Years of Leadership
Look, it should be easy, right? "Build it and they will come." "Just tell them what to do." Whether you're trying to foster a community (technical or otherwise) or a team (large or small), there are definitely some dos and don'ts. After more than 20 years of discovering a lot of the don'ts and a few of the dos, I'd like to share. This is *my* way of building a team, of creating a community... my way of *leading.* How to share a vision of a brighter tomorrow, and how to convince people to step up and join you on the journey. How to elevate others, how to win their participation, and how to succeed... as a group.
